A Sweet Sign of Spring: Maine Maple Sunday Weekend

A Sweet Sign of Spring: Maine Maple Sunday Weekend

One of Maine’s most beloved spring traditions is almost here. Maine Maple Sunday Weekend returns March 21–22, inviting visitors across the state to celebrate the rich heritage of maple syrup production.

Hosted annually by the Maine Maple Producers Association, the event marks its 42nd year in 2026, and sugarhouses throughout the state will once again open their doors for a weekend of maple-inspired festivities.

From northern forests to southern farms, maple producers welcome guests to see firsthand how sap is transformed into the golden syrup Maine is known for. While Maine Maple Sunday officially falls on the fourth Sunday in March, many sugarhouses celebrate all weekend long, with events scheduled on both Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can tour working sugarhouses, learn about the maple sugaring process, and sample a wide range of maple treats.

Each of the sugarhouses offers different events and activities including tours of the sap lines and demonstrations of sap boiling; tastings of treats like maple syrup-drizzled pancakes and ice cream; and even games, hayrides and face painting. One favorite treat is drizzling maple syrup onto snow and rolling it into a ball at the end of a wooden spoon or popsicle stick for an icy-sweet maple taffy lollipop.

So grab your family and friends for a weekend filled with sweet memories and maple-filled delights. Whether you’re a lifelong Mainer or visiting for the first time, Maine Maple Sunday is an experience not to be missed.
