Last week, more than 100 guests, clients, and Damariscotta-region locals gathered in the historic Lincoln Theater for a special “Community Appreciation” Happy Hour followed by a “Maine Real Estate Outlook” presentation from Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty founder Chris Lynch and Sotheby’s International Realty Northeast United States and Canada Vice President, Robert Byrne.
Originally built in 1870, the Lincoln Theater has undergone renovations, preserving its architectural charm while incorporating modern amenities, and we were delighted to showcase this historic venue.
Special guest Robert Byrne shared the macro view of the global real estate market, narrowing in on Canada and the Northeastern United States. Then Chris Lynch took the stage, with slides showcasing a thoughtful timeline of the last 15 years in Maine real estate, showing the audience how we got where we are today. He navigated audience questions about Maine’s growth and climate change with facts and examples and discussed upcoming challenges and some of what it will take to get through them.
“It was such a pleasure to connect with so many friends, old and new, at the Lincoln Theater. It was a great venue and a very engaged audience with lots of questions on the state of the real estate market,” says Chris Lynch, President of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty. “It was fun to be able to share so much information with each other related to the transformation of the Midcoast housing market compared to the pre-pandemic environment.”

“The presentations were very informative,” says agent Charlie Richardson. “Especially learning about the real estate mindset of Baby Boomers compared to Millennials and Gen X. The presentations explained that Millennials are more interested in experiences rather than things, however, Baby Boomers are more interested in hanging on to their second homes to pass on to their Millennial children. This mentality has an added effect on the lack of inventory in Maine.”
“The event was very insightful,” adds agent Kaleb Swan. “It was nice to see client involvement in the Q&A session, they had some really great questions.”
“Even with an accident by Red’s Eats in Wiscasset that delayed several people, including the caterers from the University of Southern Maine, it was a great success,” says Dana Whittaker of Brokerage Services. “We gifted branded pint glasses and reef-safe lip balm to kick off summer. The crispy coconut shrimp and the bacon-wrapped figs were big hits.”
“The audience feedback and specific compliments I heard were tremendous, with many people asking to be invited to the next event,” adds Dana Whittaker. “We are planning another event in another Maine coastal region later this year.”
